Six-Year-Old's Temper Tantrum Lands Her in Jail

All that the cop can verify is that the child was crying when he came in, and he failed to calm her. To make up for lack of skill, he committed false arrest, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and filing a false police report.

Did he interview the child? She may have been the victim of an assault or even a battery by an adult. Which would explain the crying.

If she was having a tantrum -- hell, she's just a kid.

She's six! If she's being too disruptive in class, take her to the principal's office. If she's still being too disruptive, call her parents. You don't call the police! It is beyond stupid to handle it the way the school did. Whoever authorized calling the cops over this needs to have some serious training and "re-education" so as not to act like a complete idiot when dealing with a kid throwing a temper tantrum in the future.

I just forwarded this to all the alumni of trial lawyers college with the opening line "no, this is not from The Onion."

I'm not sure people will even believe this story, but thanks for pointing it out.

Read the police report, if you haven't, as well as the statement the police chief made in "defense" of the arrest.

I wonder was that cop would have done if called by a restaurant because a crying baby was bothering the customers. Would he give a six-month-old a criminal record, too?

I worry about the trauma inflicted on that kid. When parents tie up their children and put them in cages, it's the parents who go to jail.

The byword is 'zero tolerance' but what we're seeing is infinite tolerance of everything done by anyone in authority.

This didn't surprise me. Several years ago, a cop arrested a FOUR-YEAR-OLD boy for grabbing a female kindergarten classmate's butt during recess. Why? Well, not because the cop was an idiot, but because he's a modern cop.

Cops are completely out of control in this country. They're like Robocops: If a law may have been, or was in fact, broken then whoever is a suspect must be arrested. Including six-year-old girls throwing temper tantrums and grown-up mom's who administer mild spankings in public to prevent same.

But it goes beyond that. Law enforcement in this country is deeply corrupted. When the story about Abu Ghraib abuse first broke I thought "I'll bet the MPs were prison guards." Well, guess what? Both Lyndie England and Charles Granier were employed as prison guards before the war.

I could go on, but won't. Anyone who is interested can go to this website:

According to the police report, the child was a tall (4.5' at six yrs), "dark," "black" kid.

I'm just sayin'.

Yep. Oddly they're always the kids the cops taser too. OTOH, "Arrested for Applauding. Seven people were arrested in Rock Hill for cheering during the graduation ceremony".

I would have arrested her @ss too. Sorry if you don't like it, but this kid is a menace. If she hit a teacher, the police did the right thing. If I were the Judge, I would have ordered a full CPS investigation against the mother- this kid learned her behavior somewhere. This is NOT a racial issue (thanks for pointing out that she was a "dark" "black" kid, BTW). It makes no difference if the police and the victims were white. This kid could be green for all I care- she's a violent pest that needs to be dealt with before she grows up and starts carrying a razor blade in her mouth.

Your comment is absurd. First of all there is a multitude of persons involved with VARIOUS interpretations to what actually occurred. Second, when a child is involved, as stated by the UN the following principles apply in regards to a CHILD:

"The child shall enjoy special protection, and shall be given opportunities and facilities, by law and by other means, to enable him to develop physically, mentally, morally, spiritually and socially in a healthy and normal manner and in conditions of freedom and dignity. In the enactment of laws for this purpose, the best interests of the child shall be the paramount consideration".

"The child shall be protected against all forms of neglect, cruelty and exploitation".

THIS COP SHOULD HAVE HIS BADGE TAKEN!
